Timeless Principles

Today is a really difficult day for my colleagues in Mxxxx_t (specially those who are in the US). For purposes of privacy policy, I would not write the details here in my blog (you would probably hear it in the news anyway).  Being safe from the first wave of lay off is not an assurance that I will be spared in the next wave. Something that inspires me today (quote from a Bible study guide about the Book of Ecclessiastes)

 1. Learn about God and obey Him

2. Do not assume that if you obey God no bad thing will happen to you

3. When bad does happen, you rest in a good God

4. While resting in a controlling God, you stay poised

5. While poised, you live boldly

6. Don’t worry about things you can’t control. but ENJOY your LIFe TODAY

7. Pray for peace that surpasses all understanding

I have bounced off some of my sentiments to a close friend and told her that this birthday party for Zarah is a milestone for us as a family. It is a celebration not only of her 3rd Birthday but also a celebration of freedom from SHAME (of me being a single mom, 3 years din akong nagtago) and a celebration to present her to old friends and my loving relatives in the Philippines. But all the news about this layoffs seems to dampen my spirit. My budget for this party, is so far bigger than what I normally should (being a single income earner)_ supporting not only my daughter but also both of my parents here in Singapore. Should I be crippled by fear of this impending doom? or should I live in the present? I chose the later and I hope that I will also earn your respect and support. Ang sabi ko nga, di naman ako kinasal, so pagbigyan nyo na ako sa anak ko…

Time and the economy is beyond our control but establishing relationships with my daughter’s future circle of friends/third cousins and their parents is not something I cannot put on hold. There is an African Proverb that says “It takes a village to raise a child”, but now that the walls have been broken down because of the power of the Internet ( and of Windows - a Microsoft legacy, to remind you-plugging yan). Ituloy ko na ang plugging  http://imapc.lifewithoutwalls.com/?icid=realpc

I can truly say ” It takes the world to raise a child”..so virtual or not, I believe it is my responsibility to present Zarah to the world…and live the life free of fear, because our God takes cares even the humblest birds and the creatures of the sea.

Unlike the birds and creatures of the sea, human beings are social creatures and needs the comfort of a social circle. Being able to relate to people in a small or big gathering is one of the most precious skills in the business world today, And this is not learned in school or books but learned in daily interactions with people. Let us serve as a beacon in this period of darkness. I was also layed off before and so I can relate and know that the “night is darker at DAWN “. It should console us that the break of dawn will bring the silver lining in our lives. And when morning comes, God is also happy to see us sigh a breath of relief.

God is a gracious God, He lets us enjoy the fruits of our labor and He gives us a the desires of our heart, as much as a loving parent would do for her child. (again from the Book of Ecclesiastes).

Prayer request for those people around the world impacted by layoffs

“that they will also learn these Timeless Principles and learn to live the life without fear and without walls, to get them through this very diffcult period. That they will be treated with emphathy, dignity and respect by their peers and employers, as they transition out from their existing jobs.”

Prayer request for me and my family

” as we prepare for and celebrate Zarah’s 3rd birthday, that we be sensitive enough and see Christ through all this. Always being mindful that Zarah was only lent to me and that she belongs to God and to the time..not that I am extending my personality through her, but is leaving her the legacy of my individuality and the warmth of a loving extended family.”
